Sweater season

1. The glasses sweater
2. Pins and strips
3. Confused nature
I wish you all a happy festive season!!
My version of Christmas sweaters, I realize there are not very festive-y(if that's a real word) but hey they are sweaters!
I just love how effortless sweaters are, pair them with some pants or a skirt and you're good to go. Which sweater do you prefer? I shouldn't be doing this but my personal favorite is the glasses sweater* Shhh

From city to country

I see fashion everywhere, that's why this collection is inspired by unfinished buildings in the city and country. Some common traits of unfinished buildings include planks, un-plastered bricks, wires sticking out, net wrapping, spaces etc. Of course no one(except maybe lady gaga) would go out with a plank dress so I just got some concepts, applied them to clothing and this is what I came up with.
Which one would you wear?

Mont Blanc jewellery

I haven't posted as many illustration as I would like to and that's because I am in the middle of my final journalism and media studies exams *so stressful* In between all the stress, I managed to copy a little something I found in an Oprah magazine.
I am working on a lot of great stuff (I think) for this month, mostly collections and other stuff I haven't yet really thought about (* _*). Plus I am pretty excited about buying my first watercolor paint set very  soon. I cannot wait to experiment with all that magic.
I am working on a collection that's pretty creative and a little on the too much side but I love it. Its inspired by unfinished buildings in the city and country side.

The Art Gala fashion collection

Theme: Art event
Color theme: orange, blue, red, brown, monochrome
This collection  was inspired by a woman going to an art gala. I wanted to create something modern with some personality in it.

Continued prints

Happy Monday to you all!
I don't really remember where I got this "continued print" idea, I just found it in my sketch book and decided to try it out. I think it would only work on a suit kind of arrangement because the whole idea is to have a print on one item of clothing continue on another unattached item, I don't know if that make much sense.
I have a tiny black book that I carry around with me and roughly sketch ideas for later use. I get inspiration from basically anything; gates, buildings, roof patterns etc. Inspiration is everywhere

To the streets..

My sister's birthday is this weekend and to celebrate it, she decided that she wants to go karting. I planned my outfit days ahead and it should look something like the above sketch. My favorite monochrome top with a black flared mini that I haven't yet found, a multi colored purse and sneakers.

Aztec print

The first time I saw Aztec print on clothing I thought it was a little too much, its one of those "a lot going on" kind of prints. Nevertheless, its still flattering to the eye and with its many shapes and patterns, it  does wonders for the body shape, well in my experience.
Aztec is one of my all time favorite prints so I decided to  design my very own version of it.
Watch out for my Aztec fashion collection ♥♥♥♥

To the streets: superwoman

A couple of days ago I was thinking about what it means to be a superwoman, there are so many ways to define who a superwoman is. I see superwomen in Zambia everyday, those woman who walk for miles and miles in the heat just to provide for the families, the ones we are used to seeing with heavy logs on their heads and a baby on their backs. Instead of designing these dresses with a picture of a woman in tights and a cap, I brought it a bit down to earth.

Last of the summer dresses

My summer dress challenge ends today and to be honest I am a little relieved because I was getting tired of designing summer dresses. When I was sketching the last four dresses, I wasn't really thinking, I mean I didn't think anything through I just got a pencil and plain paper and started sketching. When I was done I was a bit taken aback because I'm not really sure what I designed lol.
I started the summer dress challenge about two weeks ago, the links below are a little recap.

Nina, the story of an imperfect mannequin

‘Throw her out with all the unwanted parts,’ a factory worker said to another. “No one is going to use a mannequin with a missing arm, legs and eye.”
They threw her in a fenced area behind the factory where there were many others like her.  She was relieved that there was a place she could fit it.
“Why is everyone here so sad and gloomy,” she asked.
“What’s there to be happy about when nobody wants us,” they answered.
“I’m sure there’s someone out there who wants us.”
They all burst out in laughter and mocked her.
“It’s good to have dreams, just keep them to yourself.”
Filled with disappointment, she dragged herself to a corner and cried until nightfall.
The stars and moon, shinning in all their glory, heard her crying.

Summer dress challenge: Week 1

Flower power!
Last week I decided to create a little challenge for myself called the 'summer dress challenge' where I am supposed to design and post four summer dresses a week for the next two to three weeks.
I am so behind on my  challenge, I should have posted the first two  dresses on Tuesday but I was down with the flu. Good thing the week is not yet over, here are my first two sketches with a flower theme. I did not want to overload on the flowers, can be a little over powering.

Two down, ten more to go ♥♥♥♥
which one would you wear?

Summer dress challenge

Hello beautiful people!!
So last night I stayed awake because I was determined to get my sketching skills from about four to a perfect ten. Well, I didn't exactly get close to a perfect 10 but there is no doubt at all that I have improved. I can even draw a face! Ladies and gentlemen I can finally draw a face!

Summer is finally upon us here in the beautiful Country of Zambia. Although its my least favorite season, I am a little excited about it and praying that I will not be stung by the lazy bug. So I created a challenge for myself, The Summer dress challenge. From Tuesday the 16th of September to Friday, the 3rd of October, I will design and post sketches of four summer dresses a week. who knows, I might just design your next favorite dress. Wish me luck.

Fashion mosiac

Happy Tuesday!!
Over the weekend I got up to a little art project that I have wanted to try out for a while now. It didn't come out as I had imagined it but I think it looks pretty cool plus my sketching is improving. For the mosaic part, I used African print fabric and bits from safety foam.

White Summer

Summer is around the corner here in Zambia and I am already excited about it which is odd considering I am not a fan. The one thing I do love about summer are summer dresses and adorable sandals. I know I am no Hayden Williams when it comes to sketching but hopefully you are able to make out the design of this dress. During summer I like to be as comfortable as possible in my dressing. I think this dress would be good for summer, its pretty simple but still has a stylish-effortless edge to it.

Flawed nature

'Don't let anyone make you feel like your nature is flawed"
A few months ago I started reading a book by Reuben L.F Habito called Healing breath: Zen spirituality for a wounded earth. Notice how I write "started reading" its not the kind of book that you just rush through, it needs to be digested slowly with understanding. one of the issues discussed in the book focuses on seeing things for what they are. Many people would interpret this differently and I think that's all part of the Zen spirituality, understanding things for yourself.

Growing up I have had people point out things about me that I had no control over like my amazing big eyes and my quiet personality.
" you have big eyes!" thanks for telling me what I already know.
" why aren't you outgoing like your cousin?'
How does one respond to such comments? Its not so much the comments that really affected me but the tone of voice. Its that kind of a tone that almost says something is definitely wrong with you.
I grew up thinking I was the most flawed human being on earth because I  just wasn't like half the girls in my class.
Questioning someone's nature is like questioning God and I know for a fact that God made no mistake when he made you and I. I believe that everyone was born to serve a purpose on this earth.
if only we could try seeing things for what they really are. Instead of looking at big lips why cant they just be lips. Why cant a fat or skinny or short or dark girl just be a girl?
I don't know if any of this is making sense, my mind is a little clouded right now but what I am simply saying is that DO NOT EVER LET ANYONE MAKE YOU FEEL LIKE SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH YOU BECAUSE YOU ARE DIFFERENT!!
Happy weekend.

Party dress blues

My friend Edina asked me to design a blue party dress for her. I was so ecstatic when she told me about it but experienced a bit of a problem defining ‘party dress’ and deciding what shade of blue to use. She skipped all these relevant details and just told me to design something she would wear. This of course put a lot of pressure on me, I take my designing very seriously thank you. As usual, I drew the first thing that came to my mind and surprisingly she loved all of them! I think they are unique dresses. Have I seen them around? Nope!

I love the first and second the most. which one would you wear?

" I am thankful to all those who said NO to me. It's because of them I did it myself"
~Albert Einstein~
I have promised myself that each time someone doesn't give me an opportunity or each time I am faced with disappointment, I will recite this quote over and over in my head until it sticks. Many of us are so quick to give up on our dreams when faced with difficulties, I have given up countless times, heck, I feel like giving up right now but something in me wont let me. There has to be a point where we just stop waiting and start doing.
Maybe sometimes we are not given the opportunities we are searching for because God wants us to find a way and make it on our own. I feel that no matter what situation you are in life, you have enough in you to get to the point you plan to reach.

♥ Happy weekend and make everyday your best ♥

' Its time to dream new dreams,
sing new songs
and dance to new rhythms.'
